Khanna: Khanna became a lawyer and her siblings include two medical doctors, a pharmacist, a banker and two accountants, an administrator and a lab owner, a testament to not just their parents' encouragement, but the collective support of all the siblings, according to The Waterloo Record. Whatever success one child had, they shared with the others. Khanna mother was a stay-at-home mom, her father a plumber, yet all the children completed higher education. Buoyed by this support, Khanna has spent her career passing it on, supporting others and Wednesday she will receive the 2015 Focus on Friends award from Focus for Ethnic Women. Like many community-minded citizens, she believes there are others more deserving. The award will be presented at a gala fundraiser at the Great Hall, Sunshine Centre in Luther Village. "I always said I wanted to be a lawyer," said Khanna, who admits to being uncomfortable having the spotlight shining on her.
