Brandon Maddie: This family owes much to planes, according to Toronto Star. Forty years ago, in the final weeks of the Vietnam War, Brandon and Maddie parents, Lia and Trent Kilner, were infants aboard a Hercules aircraft leaving Saigon, part of a humanitarian effort that remains controversial to this day. I’m an airplane, Brandon says as he zooms around with a grey propeller taped to his nose and orange scraps of paper flopping off his shirt for wings. In the U.S., it was called Operation Babylift; in Canada, the orphan flights. Critics saw it differently. Supporters saw it as a way to rescue orphans from a treacherous war zone.
