Immigration Refugee Board and Alexandra Newbould

Jahanzeb Malik: Jahanzeb Malik is scheduled to appear again before the Immigration and Refugee Board next month, according to Winnipeg Free Press. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Alexandra Newbould TORONTO - The identity of an undercover RCMP officer who befriended a Pakistani man accused of plotting terror attacks in Toronto should remain secret, the Immigration and Refugee Board ruled Tuesday. A Pakistani man accused of planning terrorism in Canada will have to stay in custody pending a deportation hearing. The ruling overturns an earlier board decision in the case of Jahanzeb Malik that Ottawa had failed to make its case for the need for secrecy. Malik lawyer Anser Farooq opposed the application on the basis there was no new information to warrant hearing it. During several hours of closed-door hearings, the board Harry Adamidis heard a new application from Canada Border Services Agency for a publication ban on the identity of the undercover officer.
