: Receiving citizenship is a big deal, according to Huffington Post Canada. And for me, it marked the end of an 11-year process that would see me grow from an 18-year-old backpacker with a dream and a love of the Great White North, to a fully-fledged Canadian with a home and a career in beautiful Vancouver, BC. Words cannot express how proud I am to call myself a citizen of this incredible country. Just a couple days ago -- February 24 to be exact -- I celebrated my very first 'Canadaversary.' It marked one year since the official ceremony when I received Canadian Citizenship. And I think back to my early twenties, smack-bang in the middle of this process. Vividly, I recall having a job that I hated with a passion but one thing that helped me through each day was the desktop background on my office computer. I remember taking on odd jobs to make ends meet and to pass the time while I waited for my immigration paperwork to be approved.
