The Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador and Sally Saucer

Sally Saucer: The stories will be collected and printed in a booklet later this spring by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, according to The Telegram. One topic that came up were children rhymes, including the circle game, Little Sally Saucer. In the game, participants form a circle with linked hands, with one person, Little Sally, in the middle of the ring. Little Sally crouches down, eyes closed, and mimes the actions of the song, while the other participants circle around clockwise singing this song: Well, the parliamentary budget office PBO reported that in the first six months of the last fiscal year, spending on poverty reduction shrank 12 per cent. It also says overall foreign aid as a percentage of GDP has dropped off since Harper announced his maternal, newborn and child health initiative in 2010 from 0.34 per cent of GDP, declining to 0.27 per cent in 2013-14. Planned spending decreases will mean the rate will fall even further. By the way, the United Nations asks rich nations of the world to spend 0.7 per cent of GDP. A very modest and reasonable figure indeed! A small number of countries have reached this target, most recently the United Kingdom, which is struggling mightily with its own financial problems. In an interview last week, Melinda Gates offered gentle criticism of the decline in aid of overall spending. Even when a country goes through its own tough times, we still have the moral imperative to fund foreign aid around the world because having prosperity and stable societies just makes sense. Don t we have it so very tough here in Canada, you poorer people of the world? Welcome, Bill and Melinda, to our world in Canada. We get duped all the time. Ask war veterans, native people, scientists, environmentalists, new immigrants and many other groups who have had to deal directly with this Harper government. Harper promised he would change the face of Canada he been a roaring success, for sure. Other people around the globe who used to admire and respect Canadians are starting to ask, Who are these new Canadians? Well, world, we are still here, but now we have a new voice it the voice of Mr. Harper, who has drowned out the compassionate message we used to send to the world. But we are still the majority in this nation. Too bad a minority of us still are duped by this man. Last week, the two groups met for the first time, and the MacMorran seniors were full of stories and memories about many different aspects of children folklore. (www.immigrantscanada.com).
