Vanh Kalong: Vanh was 12 years old when she arrived at a refugee camp with her mother, stepfather and four siblings. , according to Hamilton Spectator. On Aug. 13, 1985, Vanh and her family flew halfway across the world to Canada and made their way to Hamilton. Vanh Kalong is my everyday hero. She would stay at the camp for five years, and every day was a fight for survival with 10,000 other people. There was never enough food or water. Infectious diseases ran rampant.
