I feel the more education you have, the better off you are, says Ross and Megan Ross is the first in her family to attend post-secondary studies. The 31-year-old is in her second year of studies at Durham Colleges 911 emergency and call centres communications program. Attending college is a source of pride for Ross, whose father is a former coal miner from Scotland, who worked as a taxi driver and construction worker in Canada, and whose mother didnt work outside the home. In my family, you finished school and got a job. No one ever asked me if I wanted to go to college, says Ross. Today, Ross motivation is to show her 7-year-old son that school doesnt have to end with a high school diploma.
