Steel Plant and Heritage Conservation District

heritage conservation district: A small historical neighbourhood next to the former steel plant site has moved closer to the creation of a heritage conservation district, according to The Chronicle Herald. The neighbourhood, bounded by Robert, Ferris and Bryan streets, contains 15 properties that were settled in the early 1900s by Polish and Ukrainian immigrants who had come to work at the steel plant. The homes are built on a slight hill that overlooks the site and Cape Breton Regional Municipalitys heritage advisory committee received an update Monday on the public input process for the proposed designation of the Kolonia neighbourhood in Sydneys Whitney Pier district.
