International Students

international student: When I first came here as an international student, of course, I had little understanding about a new culture, says Al-Otumi. I was a teenager. I went through a lot of difficulties and frustration, according to The Chronicle Herald. After graduating from Dalhousie with a bachelor of commerce degree, Al-Otumi founded the Azal Student Agency, an agency dedicated to helping international students and immigrants with the nuts and bolts of transitioning to living in Canada, so they can focus on succeeding and Akram Al-Otumi came to Nova Scotia from Yemen on Valentines Day, 2007, to pursue his higher education at Dalhousie University. Being an international student, Al-Otumi faced challenges in adjusting to a whole new country, especially one as large and diverse as Canada. Now, Al-Otumi is on the cusp of national recognition in the form of being named one of Canadas top 25 immigrants, for his efforts in helping new international students transition into the Canadian community.
