Immigration Consultant and Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

Immigration and Refugee Protection Act: A former immigration consultant from Bedford pleaded guilty Thursday to 18 charges relating to immigration fraud and is set to be sentenced Aug. 14, according to The Chronicle Herald. Crown attorney Ronda Vanderhoek said the Citizenship Act convictions dont have the severity of those under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Those penalties can be much more severe, especially in a case the size of Al-Awaids. The maximum for those charges are a fine of up to $100,000 or five years in custody or both and Hassan Al-Awaid, 60, entered guilty pleas in Halifax provincial court to 10 violations of the Citizenship Act and eight involving the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. He still has another 45 outstanding charges to be dealt with at a later date. (www.immigrantscanada.com). As reported in the news.
