Tier 2 Canada Research Chair and Marcia Ostashewski

Marcia Ostashewski: Marcia Ostashewski, an ethnomusicologist and dance ethnographer who is now Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Communities and Cultures, described her area of research as anthropologists who write about specifically music and dance as part of culture and communities and all of what that might entail, including politics, physical and health aspects of dance and technology, according to The Chronicle Herald. She said the new music and dance lab can help build tourism in Cape Breton and it can help traditionally marginalized cultures gain awareness beyond the big three in Nova Scotia: Celtic, Acadian and Mi kmaq and Who knew music and dance could change the world? One new researcher at Cape Breton University recently received significant grants that will help build a million-dollar facility to study the combination of music, movement, culture and technology. Ostashewski said, for example, her research can lead to public cultural exhibits and online educational resources for teachers and researchers, or she can work in tandem with researchers in other fields such as sociology.
