Canada Border Services Agency: Ziad El Shurafa was not in court, but his lawyers entered the pleas on his behalf and Crown lawyer Tim McLaughlin withdrew the remaining three charges, according to The Chronicle Herald. The Canada Border Services Agency arrested El Shurafa, Awni Sakalla and Mohammed Elhajabed after they searched several area homes and a Brenton Street business called Canada 2000 Immigration and Business Services Inc. in May 2011 and The second of three men charged in an immigration fraud scheme pleaded guilty in Halifax provincial court to five of eight charges Tuesday morning. El Shurafas lawyer asked the court for time to prepare a pre-sentence report and to allow his client to visit the United Arab Emirates for Ramadan before his sentencing. The request was not opposed and his sentencing hearing is set to start on Aug. 11.
