Professional Development and Nova Scotia Teachers Union

Nova Scotia Teachers Union: off target, according to The Chronicle Herald. Teachers in the province are highly regulated: The boards are responsible for the discipline of teachers up to and including discharge. Boards are also responsible for professional development. Boards are required to report instances of teacher misconduct that impact the safety of students to the Minister of Education, the police and children and family services. The Minister of Education is responsible for teacher licensing and has the authority to revoke a teachers certificate. The is responsible for issues of membership in the union and The recent report is wrong when it suggests that for teachers control over all disciplinary matters has been delegated to the Nova Scotia Teachers Union. One wonders whether the reports authors even talked to anyone from the union, the Department of Education or a school board. If so, they either failed to understand what they were told, or wilfully ignored it. (www.immigrantscanada.com). As reported in the news.
