Dartmouth artist Sandra Brownlee: Now 65, the Dartmouth weaver/notebook keeper is the winner of a Governor Generals Award in Visual and Media Arts, according to The Chronicle Herald. Brownlee was in Toronto for Tuesdays announcement. The awards will be presented by Gov. Gen. David Johnston on March 26 at Rideau Hall in Ottawa and Brownlee is thrilled that an exhibition of the winners work, featuring five of her major pieces, opens on March 27 at the National Gallery of Canada and Sandra Brownlee couldnt draw when she went to the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Her $25,000 prize comes from the Saidye Bronfman Foundation and is awarded for excellence in fine crafts.
