Rogerio Marques De Souza: On Friday, a Toronto funeral home stepped in and offered a free full service, including cremation estimated at $7,500 to the undocumented Brazilian man after learning in that his three teenaged children couldnt afford to give their father a proper farewell, according to The Star. To all the kind-hearted and compassionate people who have generously given from their heart, not even knowing this family, it restores faith knowing there are so many caring people in this world, said family friend Jeanna Fernandes and Rogerio Marques De Souza can finally rest in peace and be treated with respect and dignity like the Canadian citizen he will never be. The family had been turned down by a city-run program that covers funeral costs for low-income families because De Souza did not have legal status in Canada. Instead, city staff said they would dispose of his body, but only if the family gave up control.
