Halifax Regional Police: Its a new twist on an old fraud, says Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Pierre Bourdages, according to The Chronicle Herald. Bourdages said Halifax Regional Police and RCMP are investigating several complaints, but so far are aware of only one victim and Halifax police say someone has lost tens of thousands of dollars in a scam that involved placing a magnetic business sign on their vehicle. It goes back to an old scam when someone gives you a cheque for a large amount, asks you to keep a part for your trouble and wire back the rest. Unfortunately, when we have cheques that are issued from maybe an overseas bank or somewhere remote, it might take weeks before the bank or anybody is able to realize the cheque is counterfeited or fraudulent.
