Hamilton Health Sciences: Taiwan

Taiwan: Normally cost would not be an issue but McGregors wife Sylvia is not a Canadian citizen. She and McGregor married in Canada in 2007 and lived in Taiwan for several years before moving back to Canada, according to CBC. The McGregors problems began when Sylvia became pregnant with their second child. Sylvia had a high-risk pregnancy, meaning she would likely need a C-section to deliver. However, since she was still in the process of applying for permanent resident status, OHIP would not cover the expense. McGregor says they were told that billing would be put off until Sylvias status was granted. Laid off in November Carey McGregor has been fighting with Hamilton Health Sciences since the birth of his second child, earlier this year, over the cost of his wifes cesarean section. When we moved here we had to start over, says McGregor. We had a life in Taiwan. We had a car. We had an apartment. We brought over our cats. We shifted our life totally on the other side of the world. But I thought it was worth it because I was bringing my children back to Canada to offer them a better quality of life.
