The Canadian Womens Foundation Campaign: Mount Olivet Cemetery

Mount Olivet Cemetery: Hope is stronger than fear, reads the sign above me on the No. 4 Rosedale bus climbing Mumford Road. That message, part of the Canadian Womens Foundation campaign to end violence against women, will stay with me a long time, according to The Chronicle Herald. Higher and higher we climb, the standees on the crowded bus swaying with the twists and turns. Hearing some complaints about the cold, windy day, the senior next to me invokes her mothers favourite saying: If we didnt have weather, we wouldnt have anything to talk about and Up the hill we go, past Mount Olivet Cemetery with its Titanic heritage and slanted stones shining in the sun. This bus follows a circuitous route to Clayton Park and beyond, along streets I remember from my trip on the No. 2 to Fairview: a pawn shop cheek-by-jowl with restaurants, half-built condos and the incongruous Eastcan Geomatics on Dutch Village Road. On side streets are tidy bungalows surrounded with so many spring blooms that I hardly recognize them from before. A playground on Rosedale is packed with kids whose parkas vie with the flowers for vibrant colours. (www.immigrantscanada.com). As reported in the news.
