Willy Halisi: Medical Examiner

Hernia Surgery Dept: Manitoba's chief medical examiner is calling for an expert review, rather than an inquest, after a Winnipeg girl died following minor surgery, according to Winnipeg Free Press. Ashuza, the only child of immigrant parents, had day surgery to repair a hernia on her umbilical cord at the Maples Surgical Centre on March 11. The surgery, to repair an outward bulging of the abdominal lining around the navel, is considered a minor procedure and Willy Halisi, father of 10-year-old Ashuza who died after having hernia surgery, contemplates a reporter's question during an interview in his family home in Winnipeg, March 17. The medical examiner has ruled Ashuza's death accidental. Dr. Thambirajah Balachandra said Thursday afternoon he would not be calling for an inquest into the death of 10-year-old Ashuza Halisi, which he ruled as accidental.
