Citizenship And Immigration Canada Dept: The asylum seekers are not supposed to be eligible for an appeal because their claims were made before the Refugee Appeal Division came into effect on Dec. 15, according to The Star. Citizenship and Immigration Canada has posted a note on its website alerting the public of the mistake and that it is working on correcting the drafting error. More than 1,600 refugee claimants who sought asylum in Canada before a new appeal division was established in December have suddenly found themselves a new lifeline. However, an error written into the Balanced Refugee Reform Act inadvertently granted the group the right to appeal, leaving the federal government scrambling to plug the loophole.
