This means that Canadian taxpayers are subsidizing 80 per cent of the actual processing costs and OTTAWA Application fees for Canadian citizenship could as much as double as the government seeks to rein in skyrocketing processing costs. Alexis Pavlich, a spokeswoman for Immigration Minister Jason Kenney, said the cost of processing citizenship applications has gone up but the fees have remained the same for nearly 20 years.
