Harper Dept: Regarding Chief Theresa Spence s hunger strike and insistence on meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper to address serious and urgent aboriginal needs, it is to Mr. Harper s and our nation s absolute shame that his silence has been deafening, according to The Star. That Harper is missing in action at a moment when his leadership is so crucially required should be grounds for his removal from office. A government that cynically and unashamedly responds solely to the needs of the 1 per cent, at every turn, has lost the moral authority to govern and re: Idle No More could be trouble for PM, Jan. 3 Chief Spence s brave action only became necessary because of the utter and systemic neglect of the Harper government to the plight of Canada s aboriginal communities. I m not sure what Mr. Harper thinks his job description is, but if it doesn t include a meeting such as this, then perhaps he should resign immediately and let someone actually lead someone who takes the responsibilities of the office seriously.
