Human Rights Dept: Nixon created the artwork, a stylized candle in kiln-cast glass, to symbolize the human rights work of the three recipients, according to Winnipeg Free Press. This year s recipients are Jane Burpee, Education Coordinator with the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society; The Rainbow Resource Centre, a major resource and support centre serving Manitoba s gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and two-spirited LGBTT communities; and Louise Simbandumwe, director of SEED Winnipeg s Asset Building Programs and the founder of Run for Rights and recipients of the 2012 Human Rights Commitment Award of Manitoba will each receive a unique piece of art created by local artist Jayne Nixon at the Awards Ceremony on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the United Way Building in Winnipeg.
