Holiday Season Dept: No matter their background or beliefs, 72 per cent of Canadians are OK with - and indeed prefer - the term "Christmas season" to "holiday season," according to a new nationwide poll. Furthermore, that proportion has remained relatively stable for the past three years, rising or falling by no more than one percentage point since 2010, according to Vancouver Sun. Demographic differences, however, suggest this may not be the case for long. Among Canadians aged 18 to 34, just 59 per cent prefer "Christmas" to "holiday," compared to 71 per cent for those 35 to 54 and 82 per cent among the 55-plus set. "We know younger people are less likely to be going to church, less likely to identify with the Christian faith and less likely to practise it," said Simpson and war on Christmas? Please. Cilantro is more divisive. "Immigration has changed the landscape of the country but despite that, we see a consistent view that this is the Christmas season," said Sean Simpson, associate vice-president of pollster Ipsos Reid, which did the poll exclusively for Postmedia News and Global Television. "I think a lot of newcomers to Canada are saying: 'This is what you do here. It might not be my thing, but call it Christmas because that's what most people here are celebrating.'"
