Halifax Dept: Unlike most of the province, its population is growing. Its median age is slightly below the national average. It has universities and colleges, a lively cultural scene and a reasonable job market to keep and attract young residents, according to The Chronicle Herald. The Vital Signs report, compiled from various statistical sources, points out the under-15 population of Halifax has fallen 9.7 per cent in the last decade, while the over-65 cohort has grown by 29.2 per cent. That s not a formula for staying a youngish city and hALIFAX likes to see itself as the demographic hipster of Nova Scotia when it looks in the statistical mirror. But Halifax shouldn t kid itself. It has some youth deficits of its own, as the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia, a charity that promotes civic engagement and community building, shows in a demographic profile of the city.
