Nighisti Semret: Tuesday Morning

Delta Chelsea Hotel Dept: Nighisti Semret, 55, was on her way home from an overnight shift at the Delta Chelsea hotel early Tuesday morning, when a man with a knife approached her from behind and stabbed her. Witnesses told the Star she was stabbed at least 10 times with a long serrated blade, according to The Star. Frida DePaz worked with Semret at Andorra Building Maintenance, the company which contracts out to the hotel. DePaz said Semret who also went by the nickname Nicki was a mother of four who had been saving to bring her children and husband to Toronto and the victim of a deadly Cabbagetown stabbing Tuesday morning was an Eritrean refugee determined to bring her family to Canada, according to a co-worker. Toronto police Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux told a news conference Wednesday that investigators have not been able to contact any next of kin, despite contacting her employer and immigration officials.
