Nighisti Semret: Tuesday Morning

Delta Chelsea Hotel Dept: Nighisti Semret, 55, was on her way home from an overnight shift at the Delta Chelsea hotel early Tuesday morning, when a man with a knife approached her from behind and stabbed her. Witnesses told the Star she was stabbed at least 10 times with a long serrated blade, according to The Star. DePaz said Semret who also went by the nickname Nicki was a mother of four who had been saving to bring her children and husband to Toronto and the victim of a deadly Cabbagetown stabbing Tuesday morning was an Eritrean refugee determined to bring her family to Canada, according to a co-worker. Toronto police Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux told a news conference Wednesday that investigators have not been able to contact any next of kin, despite contacting her employer and immigration officials.
