Ottawa Dept: Statistics Canada s census data said 61.4 per cent of Ottawa cited English as the language spoken at home, down slightly from 2006, according to CTV. There are roughly 6,000 more native French speakers in 2011 than 2006, with the city s population growing by just over 71,000 and ottawa s language picture is mirroring that of the country , as French and English give a bit of ground to non-official languages. The percentage of Ottawans who said French was their native tongue is down from 16.7 per cent to 16 per cent.
