Federal Government: Intimate Secrets

Canadian Border Services Agency Dept: Our hyper security-conscious federal government wants Canadian Border Services Agency staff to reveal in a voluntary survey some of their most intimate secrets: whether they take a drink and how much, whether they play the 6-49 or have ever kicked a dog, according to The Chronicle Herald. Those subjects and many more are covered in 57 questions on a 23-page survey being distributed to CBSA employees and reported by the CBC in Windsor, Ont. The guards union is telling its members not to co-operate with the survey, which a union official called exceptionally intrusive with questions to the point of being ridiculous. When paranoia rules, even the watchers get watched. Thousands of watchers at our borders, portrayed so shamelessly as sentinels against terrorism, immigration trickery and illegal smokes, are now getting the third-degree treatment themselves. The watchers watchers want to know whether CBSA applicants and current staff were ever refused auto insurance, have any unpaid parking tickets or indulged in antihistamines.
