Immigration Minister Jason Kenney: Federal Government

Citizenship Dept: Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced Monday that 530 letters have already gone out to individuals thought to have fudged their residency requirements in order to obtain citizenship. So far 19 citizenships have actually been revoked, according to Vancouver Sun. Another 1,800 people linked to the fraud sweep have since withdrawn or abandoned their claim and the federal government is now moving to strip as many as 3,139 new Canadians of their citizenship as part of a massive ongoing investigation targeting nearly 11,000 immigrants suspected of fraud. The government has "flagged" nearly 5,000 more permanent residents believed to have lied about their living situation, while more than 2,500 newcomers are being "watched closely" as part of more recent investigations, Kenney said. "Most of these individuals are believed to be outside the country and have never really lived here, but if they attempt to enter Canada or to obtain citizenship, they will be subject to additional scrutiny thanks to these investigations," Kenney said.
