Immigration Minister Jason Kenney Dept: Eighty lawyers have sent an open letter to Kenney defending colleague Guidy Mamann, a lawyer who challenged the minister over whether he was indeed hands-off on the Black matter. Kenney s office had complained about Mamann s remarks to the Law Society of Upper Canada, according to Montreal Gazette. Lorne Waldman, a Toronto immigration lawyer behind the initiative, says it really has nothing to do with Black, the former media mogul who renounced his Canadian citizenship so he could sit in Britain s House of Lords and was later jailed for fraud in the United States and oTTAWA Immigration Minister Jason Kenney has taken on the judiciary, doctors and now lawyers who have banded together to challenge his assertion that he played no role in securing Conrad Black s temporary Canadian residency permit before Black was released from a U.S. prison. While the regulatory body stood by Mamann s right to free speech, the other lawyers felt more action was needed.
