The actors allege that their contracts with 20th Century Fox Television, which produces the mockumentary style family sitcom, are illegal under a California law that prohibits personal service contracts to extend for more than seven years and freshly nominated for TV's Emmy Awards and currently embroiled in salary negotiations, five stars of the popular sitcom Modern Family have launched a lawsuit over their work contracts.
