Renfrew-Collingwood Food Security Institute: City Parks

Greenest City Action Plan Dept: The city has created new orchards in three city parks in just the past couple of years - Falaise, Gaston and Slocan - with the Renfrew-Collingwood Food Security Institute and a handful of neighbourhood partners. Its goal is to create at least seven more orchards by 2020 as part of the Greenest City Action Plan, according to Vancouver Sun. Thirty-five apple and cherry trees planted at Fraser view and McCleery golf courses are thriving under the care of course groundskeepers and the city's urban fruit orchard is poised to expand steadily over the next eight years with new plantings planned for city parks. Other pocket orchards include a stand of 36 native crabapple trees in Fraser River Park, 13 fruit and nut trees in Douglas Park and 50 fruit trees at New Brighton Park, although many of those have perished.
