Alcuin Society Awards For Excellence Dept: The work that pays the bills is graphic design done through his company, Laughing eye Design. He designs brochures, food labels, hotel ads and, for a couple of years, he's created the catalogue for the Alcuin Society Awards for Excellence in Book Design in Canada, according to Vancouver Sun. "Book art is different from illustration," he says. "It's more like a concrete poem. I often write the stories, do the illustrations, take the photographs and print and then bind the books myself. Basically, I will do the story from the beginning to the end." Even Markus Fahrner has trouble explaining exactly what he does. But it's his other work as a book artist - his labour of love - that's almost easier to describe by what it's not than what it is.
