Toronto District School Board Dept: Whether she was pushed or is jumping remains a topic of grass-roots speculation, but Trustee Howard Kaplan said Monday that Hyman has asked for a switch to another school within the Toronto District School Board, effective this fall, according to The Star. I myself was skeptical about the school in the beginning, but she has been a wonderful principal and it hasn t been easy with a school that has had different views from the very start within the board and the community, admitted Kaplan. But she is just the person the school has needed; I m a strong backer of the school and of the principal. It could be the trickiest principal s posting in Canada head of the country s only public Africentric elementary school and after three years, Thando Hyman is getting out. The principal, a long-time champion of Africentric programs and part-time jazz singer, could not be reached Monday for comment, but Kaplan stressed the request came from her, not the board, and is one of a string of routine transfer requests the board will vote on in private Wednesday night.
