Vanessa Kornelsen Dept: The Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba IRCOM is looking for Canadian families to help newcomer families get off to a good start this summer, according to Winnipeg Free Press. IRCOM is a not-for-profit organization that manages a 67-suite transitional housing complex for 300 recently arrived newcomers and provides them with settlement support services. The family-to-family program pairs newcomer families with Canadian families to get together three or four times throughout the summer for activities such as a barbecue or picnic, going to The Forks, the beach or a summer event. The program includes a two-hour training session on cross-cultural communication the evening of May 29 and a get-to-know-you event for the host and newcomer families June 2.
