John Plant: J.A. Wainwright

Plant Dept: Composer John Plant has put music to the words of poet and author J.A. Wainwright in the opera I Will Fly Like a Bird, which opens in Halifax on Thursday, according to Montreal Gazette. While it might seem strange that artists on the east coast of Canada are paying tribute to a man who died on the West Coast, Dziekanski's unsettling end is well known across Canada, Plant said Sunday from his home in West Jeddore, N.S and a new opera by two Canadian artists is a unique memorial to the tragic death in Vancouver of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski. Both Plant and Wainwright are from Nova Scotia, but wanted to pay tribute to Dziekanski, who was killed in 2007 after RCMP officers repeatedly shot him with a Taser at Vancouver International Airport.
