Douglas Zipes Dept: Douglas Zipes, a professor of cardiology at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, studied eight cases in which people in the U.S. had cardiac arrest after being Tasered, seven of whom died, according to Vancouver Sun. Zipes said his study - published online in the journal Circulation - is the first peer-reviewed scientific research to show that being shocked with a Taser can cause death and a study has found for the first time that Tasers do cause death in some cases. However, the maker of the stun guns, which are used by several Canadian police forces, question the study and objectivity of the man behind it.
