Canada: Human Rights

Food Security Dept: Immigration Minister Jason Kenney has demonstrated astounding ignorance and callous disregard in his response to the UN rapporteur on food security, according to The Star. To say we should not be held accountable is to say Canada is no longer respecting human rights or international law, as is rejecting the Kyoto Accord, which is also related to food security. And yet it is every elected official s first duty to uphold and respect human rights of all people they represent Vienna Declaration 1993 and Canada s Charter of Rights and Freedoms and re: Governing from the kids' table, May 19 First, the rapporteur is from the UN human rights council, not a food aid program. The council s mandate includes all countries that have ratified human rights treaties, including economic and social rights 1976 and Canada is no exception.
