Immigration Applications Dept: The government s plan to just throw out almost 300,000 backlogged immigration applications from skilled workers, when their only crime was to have filed between the years 2006 and 2008, feels unreasonably cruel to me, according to The Star. A recent CIC press release had Immigration Minister Jason Kenney explaining the necessity of this course of action, and although a number of reasons were offered including the requisite handwavy economic claims , perhaps the most remarkable justification was that applicants are being inconvenienced by the very long wait times and re: Immigration backlog slashed, April 23 I have no qualms with tightening immigration policy, but this specific group of people has already been patiently waiting for several years for their applications to be processed. Potential immigrants often spend thousands of dollars and sacrifice a great deal, sometimes even holding off on starting a family. Casually disregarding due process and shattering their dreams so abruptly seems needlessly draconian.
