9mm Handguns Dept: Fewer than 90 national park wardens have been armed with 9mm handguns for three years while hundreds of land-border crossing officers have had theirs for four and a half years as part of a 10-year phase-in program, according to The Star. Jason McMichael, first national vice-president of the Customs and Immigration Union, said CBSA officers have had to draw their weapons on several occasions and many Parks Canada and Canada Border Services Agency officers have been armed for years but have yet to discharge their weapons if you don t count a border agent shooting an injured moose last year. Unions for both had argued that being armed was necessary and, after a court battle, the federal government acquiesced.
