Federal Court Dept: At his detention review Monday in Toronto, Mohamed Zeki Mahjoub, 51, will argue he should be released unconditionally because his solicitor-client privilege has been breached and constitutional rights violated, according to The Star. The government seized, commingled and reviewed the applicant s documents from his counsel s breakout room, Mahjoub s lawyers claim in his submissions obtained by the Star and an alleged terrorist from Egypt, who has been fighting Ottawa for more than a decade over his innocence, is asking the Federal Court to set him free after the government mistakenly got hold of his lawyers confidential files. The legal files, taken in July by Department of Justice staff from his counsel s room in a Toronto court, include the Mahjoub legal team s strategy and notes for his defence.
