University Faculty Association: Jennifer Howard

Brandon University Dept: This strike is now into Day 28. Students are being held hostage, watching their money, their time and their university experience being stolen, according to Winnipeg Free Press. Deborah Poff, president and vice-chancellor of BU, replied the same day, agreeing to have the outstanding issues resolved in the recommended fashion and stating if BUFA the Brandon University Faculty Association agreed, classes could resume as early as Monday and mediation to end the strike by Brandon University faculty failed last week. Mediator Michael Werier said negotiations were at an impasse. On Monday, the university reported the weekend did not see an agreement reached. Labour and Immigration Minister Jennifer Howard sent a letter to both parties on Friday expressing her disappointment and recommending, but not imposing, arbitration. (www.immigrantscanada.com).
