United Way Toronto: Employee Campaign

Star Employees Dept: Along with the fun and games at fundraising events, employees at the Star dug deep into their pockets, raising $236,688.84 for United Way Toronto. This year s goal has been set at $175,000. The Star matched employee donations with a corporate contribution of $175,000 for a grand total of $411,688.84, according to The Star. I was very optimistic about meeting the goal, Agnihotri said of the employee campaign, noting that, despite a shaky economy, Star employees didn t hesitate to open their hearts and wallets in aid of others. Surpassing the goal was a welcome bonus and they baked cookies and iced cupcakes, held a book bazaar, 50/50 draws, silent auction and cooked up delicious foods from around the world, all in support of their most vulnerable neighbours. It s why campaign co-chairs Sanjay Agnihotri, who headed fundraising at 1 Yonge St., and Allan Sheldon at the Vaughan printing plant, were beaming Thursday when the final tally was announced.
