Movies With English Subtitles Dept: But Les Neiges du Kilimandjaro The Snows of Kilimanjaro has nothing to do with an ascent up a high mountain or a retelling of the Hemingway tale. This production - Sunday's closing film at Cinemania, which screens French movies with English subtitles - is, in fact, a sobering social drama that would probably benefit from a title better reflecting its content, according to Montreal Gazette. The closest the famed Tanzanian mountain comes into play here is by way of two airplane tickets that are never used. The tickets were given to Michel Jean-Pierre Darroussin , a union steward in Marseille who loses his stevedore job in a lottery he organized and the title could conjure up images of a National Geographic travelogue. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Or, possibly, a French remake of the 1952 American flick of the same title, based on the story by Ernest Hemingway. The film made its bow at Cannes in the spring and is directed by Robert Gu diguian, who previously enthralled Cinemania audiences with Marius and Jeannette 1998 and The Town Is Quiet 2001 .
