Yannick Weber Dept: On the Canadiens' 25-man roster, there are nine Canadians, six Americans, two Russians, two Czechs, two Swiss, and one player from Denmark, Belarus, Finland and Slovakia. Like most National Hockey League teams, it's a United Nations roster, according to Montreal Gazette. Weber and Diaz both told The Gazette's Pat Hickey that they were inspired by former Canadiens defenceman Mark Streit, who is now captain of the New York Islanders and as Canadians, we like to think of hockey as "our game." But hockey really has become an international sport, which is reflected by the Canadiens. Our cover story in this month's edition of Hockey Inside/Out focuses on the Swiss defence pair of Yannick Weber and Raphael Diaz, who took different routes to the Canadiens but are hoping to serve as an inspiration for Swiss players in the future.
