Public Appearance Dept: Justices Michael Mol-daver and Andromache Karakatsanis - he the son of a scrap metal dealer and she the daughter of Greek immigrant restaurateurs - were officially sworn in at a private ceremony on Oct. 27 and have already been on the bench hearing cases, according to Montreal Gazette. "You have both earned the deep respect of the Canadian legal community for your knowledge and skill as lawyers and judges and for your devotion to the law and our justice system," Nicholson said and canada's newest additions to the Supreme Court of Canada received a warm welcome Monday in a ceremony punctuated by humour and focused on their humble beginnings and achievements rather than any perceived inadequacies - as was the case at a parliamentary committee during their last public appearance. But Monday's public event was a chance for both to ad-dress their new colleagues, the public and their many friends and relatives who packed the main courtroom for the event, which was also attended by Justice Minister Rob Nicholson, Ontario Attorney General John Ger-retsen and representatives from the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada.
