Member Legislature Dept: McGuinty will appoint a smaller executive council on Thursday at Queen s Park, handing the expanded education portfolio to rising star Laurel Broten, who has been children and youth services minister, according to The Star. Broten, who represents Etobicoke-Lakeshore, succeeds Leona Dombrowsky, one of four ministers to lose a seat in the Oct. 6 election that saw the Liberals reduced to a minority of 53 seats in the 107-member Legislature from 70 and ontario voters put Dalton McGuinty s Liberals on a crash diet and the premier has responded with a slimmed-down cabinet for his minority government. The premier is slashing the number of cabinet members to 22 from 28.
