John Ralston Saul: Le Malade Imaginaire

Norman Bethune Dept: In her role as colonel-in-chief of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, she has travelled to Kandahar to encourage Canadian troops. She has promoted educational and health initiatives for inner-city and first-nations communities, according to Montreal Gazette. Now she is back with Room for All of Us, a portrait of 10 extraordinary citizens who embody the immigrant narrative of rising from humble beginnings to make a mark on Canada. If that sounds suspiciously like Clarkson herself, well, it's no accident and since moving out of Rideau Hall, the longtime CBC television host, writer, producer and arts maven has cofounded the Institute for Canadian Citizenship with her husband, writer John Ralston Saul. It fosters inclusion of new immigrants by sponsoring conferences and activities like free museum passes for newcomers. Not to mention her busy writing schedule: Since 2006, Clarkson, 72, has penned four books, including a memoir, Heart Matters; a translation of Moli re's play Le Malade Imaginaire with theatre director John Van Burek in 2007; and a 2009 biography of Canadian Communist doctor Norman Bethune.
