Terry Hunter Dept: For its eighth instalment, the Heart of the City festival, taking place from today to Nov. 6., aims to highlight the positive side of an area that is often cast in a negative light, according to Vancouver Sun. "Our story is also the story of the city of Vancouver: We're an immigrant-based neighbourhood. First nations people have been here since time immemorial. Chinese-Canadian, Indo-Canadian, black-Canadian - we all, at one point, came through this neighbourhood. We are an incredibly diverse neighbourhood with an amazing breadth of cultural roots and groups." The Downtown Eastside's history is intrinsically linked to the history of the city of Vancouver, so what better way to celebrate the neighbourhood's story and accomplishments than by throwing a big 10-day bash right in the city's heart? " The Downtown Eastside has an extraordinary story with incredible accomplishments and incredible pain at times," Heart of the City's artistic director Terry Hunter said.
