Cup Riot: Criminal Defence

Tv Cameras Dept: Criminal defence lawyer Mark Jett said each riot-related case is going to come down to the consent issue, according to Vancouver Sun. "Many will be guilty pleas right out of the gate," he predicted of the riot-related charges yet to be laid. "There may be a few contested trials." The B.C. government announced this week that it wants TV cameras in courts during Stanley Cup riot trials, but each trial will still face a significant hurdle - both Crown and defence have to consent to allowing cameras. "Even if both parties consent, the judge is not bound to order cameras in the court," he pointed out, adding individual judges have the discretion to decide whether the case is appropriate for broadcast on TV.
